Based on the classic novel by Graham Greene, Brighton Rock is a musical drama set among the smoky pubs, seedy boarding houses and razor-wielding gangsters of a 1930s seaside town. Pinkie, a young but already notorious mobster, has a dilemma. The only witness to a cruel murder is Rose, a 16-year-old Catholic girl with a memory for faces and a soft spot for him. A wedding would buy her silence, but Pinkie doesnΓÇÖt believe in love and marriage. Directed by Michael Attenborough, whose father Richard so memorably played Pinkie in John BoultingΓÇÖs 1947 film version of Brighton Rock, this production is surely destined to be one of the essential shows of the season. As an Arts First member you could win one of 10 pairs of tickets to see Brighton Rock at the Almeida in Islington, London.
